Pinehaven Christian Ranch began in 1976 as an adjunct ministry of The First Christian Church of St. Ignatius. Founded by Bob and Nancy Larsson, Pinehaven was created in response to a growing need they saw among children who lacked stability, guidance, and opportunity.
…and following decades
With the support of many, and utilizing Bob’s connections to small churches across Illinois and Indiana, Pinehaven became a Christ-centered home for youth from a wide range of backgrounds.
For decades, students came to Pinehaven to live on the ranch, learn the value of hard work, catch up academically when needed, and build a foundation for life rooted in faith, responsibility, and purpose.
Over time, the needs of young people shifted. Many required levels of therapeutic or secure care beyond Pinehaven’s mission and scope.
At the same time, research revealed a troubling trend: a majority of young adults were walking away from their faith between the ages of 18 and 24—and many never returned.
As we prayed for God’s direction, we recognized two growing needs:
This program combines hands-on ranch work, job and life skills, Bible study, and discipleship.
Everything is rooted in Scripture, helping students grow in skills, confidence, and learning how to live and work with integrity while centered in Christ.
Over the past 50 years, Pinehaven has served more than 700 students. While our programs have evolved, our mission has not.
Everything we do is centered on Jesus Christ. We believe lasting change comes through Him alone. Our goal is to help young men and women play the long game—establishing a foundation of faith, discovering their God-given worth, and gaining the skills they need to become responsible, hardworking people of integrity.
Thanks to the generosity of churches, families, and individuals across the country, Pinehaven has never turned away a student due to cost. That support allows us to continue walking alongside young people as they grow in faith, purpose, and hope for the future.
